A big month.

It has been a big month for Adam’s Handy Hands, I have done a variety of jobs and had my biggest month so far.

I have serviced bicycles, repaired a kitchen drawer, hung some picture rails, assembled some Ikea flat packs, mounted some Ikea shelves, dissembled a trampoline and repaired screws broken in a hinge.

With all this work coming in it has been very tiring and hard work, learning new things and working out how to repair things. I knew it was going to be tough to start my own company and tiring work to have a second job, but when I started Adam’s Handy Hands I had casual work and didn’t know if I would have work the next day.

I started Adam’s Handy Hands as something to keep me occupied and have some extra income, I never knew it would become such a great business and earn me what it has.

I have gained some great skills and learnt some new ways to complete jobs. I have expanded my skills and knowledge and had a great time doing it. It has been worthwhile me starting Adam’s Handy Hands as I have enjoyed my passion for repairs and working with my hands and tools.

Bicycle maintenance and maintenance classes

If you have a business work life and struggle to find the time to take your bicycle to the shop for repairs and want to go riding on the weekend, then look no further. I offer a mobile repair service that can come to your place to repair and service your bicycle.

I have many years’ experience servicing bicycles of all sorts, from 70’s road bikes to mountain bikes manufactured just last year. I can fully disassemble your trusty old road bike and rebuild it to perfection, ready for the next 10 years.

If you are thinking about servicing your own bicycle but don’t have the knowledge or skill then maybe I can help. I have been thinking about holding some classes on basic bicycle maintenance from repairing a tube to adjusting your brakes. I can take you through all the basics to make sure your bicycle is right for when you need it.

It would be over 3 weeks and a cost of $150, and held on a weekend. The first session would be to go over the components of the bicycle and by the third session we would be working on your bicycle servicing what is needed.

If I can get enough people interested then I would be able to provide the classes to you. You would then have the confidence to change your tube or adjust your brakes to make it home when out on a ride.

My own little project

Since starting Adam's Handy Hands I have been thinking about all the tools and materials i would need and how much space in the car they would take up.

I started with a few tools and the basic materials and have steadily been buying more tools and materials. I was stacking my tool bag and materials in the back of my small van, cramming them in to just fit.

I had an idea to make a shelf for the back of my van to allow me to stack my tools above my materials and storage boxes. I made a simple shelf with draw to accommodate all my boxes and tool bags without having to remove them all to get to the boxes underneath.

I added some eye hooks to the sides to secure the shelf to the tie down points in my car. I also added some eye hooks to secure the boxes and tool bags to the shelf to stop them from moving around.

With a few pieces of timber from my local hardware store I was able to create a great shelf for the back of my van. This allows me to organize my tools and materials so their easily accessible when needed.

This is the end result, and I find that it it make it a lot easier to access my tools and plastic boxes when needed. It also keeps everything secure so it won't move around the back of my van.
